When the season of practice begins we will practice at Columbia University’s Baker field, from 8:30-10:00 PM, at 218th and Broadway on Tuesday and Thursday nights. We will also use either Pier 40 (Houston and Broadway) and Chelsea Piers (23rd and 11th) when necessary. Baker Field is where we play all our home matches and features field turf (the best surface/fastest surface out there) and a 2,000 seat stadium.

 

 


1) We train Monday and Thursday nights at an indoor facility, Velocity Sports Performance Center – 133 East 58th St. between Park and Lexington, 6th Floor. 830-930 PM, this is free of charge and sponsored by the Club. This will continue until the first week of February.

2) We also have a Club gym, called USATC www.usatc.com (53rd and Madison) they sponsor the Club and all Old Blue players may attend for free. We also hold Club lifting sessions on Saturdays at 11 AM.



Practice and Games


We play all our games on Saturday and due to everybody’s work schedule we stick to games on the weekends. Fall 2008 practices are currently scheduled for Columbia University’s Baker Field on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 8:30 -10:00 PM. Alternate training facilities include Chelsea Waterside Park and Pier 40.

Baker Field - 218th Street and Broadway: Entrance to field is on 218th street, approximately 100 yards west of Broadway. Subway: The No.1 train to 215th Street. Walk north 3 blocks to 218th. Or, the A train to 207th Street. Walk north on Broadway to 218th. Car: From Manhattan (West Side): Henry Hudson Parkway (West Side Hwy) north to Dyckman Street, east to Broadway (first major intersection). Make a left on Broadway and go 20 blocks to 218th St. Turn left at 218th St, and make immediate right into the Baker Field Complex. From Manhattan (East Side): FDR north to Dyckman Street. West on Dyckman to Broadway. Right on Broadway 20 blocks to 218th St, then left and first right into Baker Field. From NJ: Take George Washington Bridge and follow signs for Henry Hudson Pkwy north or uptown (bear right on upper deck, bear left on lower deck). Henry Hudson Pkwy (West Side Hwy) north to the second exit Dyckman Street, and proceed east to Broadway. Make a left on Broadway and go 20 blocks to 218th St, etc.

Pier 40 - Houston Street & West Street: Take the 1 or 9 train to Houston/Varick Street. Walk west to West Street/9A. Cross West Houston and head to the walkway toward the South end of the Pier 40 building. The M21 bus runs across Houston Street, west as far as Greenwich St, 2 blocks east of Pier 40. The NJ Path train’s Christopher St stop is within walking distance.

Chelsea Waterside Park - 23rd St and 11th Ave: This Field is on a large triangle on the west side of 11th Avenue which contains the field, a dog run, basketball court and playground. Subway: C or E train to 23rd St/8th Ave. Go 3 blocks west across 23rd street straight into the park. The M23 bus runs across 23rd St, and stops at 11th Ave directly across the street from the Park. Car: From the North, Henry Hudson Parkway south which becomes the West Side Highway to 23rd St. From West: Lincoln Tunnel to WSH and proceed south to, or Holland Tunnel to WSH and proceed north to, 23rd St. From East: Midtown Tunnel, west across Manhattan to the WSH, and then south to 23rd St.


DIRECTIONS TO BAKER FIELD ATHLETICS COMPLEX

BY AUTOMOBILE:

From WEST SIDE HIGHWAY/HENRY HUDSON PARKWAY: Exit Dyckman Street, and proceed east to Broadway. Make a left on Broadway and proceed 20 blocks north to 218th Street.

From FDR/HARLEM RIVER DRIVE: Continue north to end of Harlem River Drive. Bear right at light and proceed north on 10th Avenue to 218th Street.

*From MAJOR DEEGAN EXPRESSWAY (I-87): Exit 230th Street. Proceed on 230th Street westbound (from north – make right at light; from south make left at light). Continue on 230th Street to Broadway. Make left on Broadway and proceed 12 blocks to 218th Street.

From WEST: Take George Washington Bridge and follow signs for Henry Hudson Parkway North or Major Deegan Expressway North(follow directions above).

From NORTH: Take Cross-Westchester Expressway (I-287) or Cross-County Parkway west to Saw Mill River Parkway south. Take the Saw Mill to the Henry Hudson Parkway South or Major Deegan Expressway South (follow directions above).

From NEW ENGLAND: Take Connecticut Turnpike (I-95) to Cross Bronx Expressway (I-95). Exit Cross Bronx to Major Deegan Expressway North or Henry Hudson Parkway North (follow directions above).

From LONG ISLAND: Take Long Island Expressway East to Clearview Expressway North, or Northern State Parkway/Grand Central Parkway East to Cross Island Parkway North to Throgs Neck Bridge. Bear left after toll for Cross Bronx Expressway (I-95) South (follow directions above).

From SOUTH: Take New Jersey Turnpike North to Exit 18 George Washington Bridge (follow directions above).

*Commercial and Oversize Vehicles must use Major Deegan Expressway.

By MTA NEW YORK CITY SUBWAY: Broadway-Seventh Avenue IRT Local (”1″ train) north or south to 215th Street, then walk two blocks north and cross Broadway at W. 218th Street. OR 8th Avenue IND Express (”A” train) north to 207th Street (exit at north end of platform - 211th Street), then proceed north to 218th Street.

By MTA METRO-NORTH COMMUTER RAIL: Marble Hill Station is located just across the Harlem River from Baker Field Athletics Complex, at 225th Street. Walk east to Broadway, then south across the Broadway Bridge to 218th Street.

VAN CORTLAND PARK - 250TH STREET & BROADWAY, BRONX, NY

By Subway: Take the 1/9 uptown to the last stop in Bronx (242nd St/VanCortland Park) The elevated station is on the southwest corner of the park and directly over Broadway. Walk north on the uptown side of Broadway and you will see the expanse of park flatlands on the right. By Car: From the North, take Rt. 95 South to the NY State Thruway (87) South, and continue south to Van Cortlandt Park So. exit. Follow exit around to the right. Proceed 1-2 blocks west to Broadway. (Subway will be overhead). Turn right on Broadway, head north to the field on the right.

From Manhattan (West Side): take Henry Hudson Parkway North (9A-N) through toll to Broadway/9-S exit. Turn right onto Broadway and the park flats will be on the left.

From Manhattan (East Side): Drive north up 1st Ave to 125th St and up the ramp over the Willis Ave bridge. Stay to the left on the bridge and merge onto I-87N/Major Deegan Expressway toward Albany. Get off at the Van Cortlandt Park South Exit (#11). Then right along VC Park South, right onto Broadway and proceed to 250th St, with the park flats on the right.
